BALLARAT City Council is reviewing the condition at North Gardens Reserve following last weekend's Powderfinger concert.Thousands of fans flocked to the site on Saturday for an energy-infused - yet wet and muddy - night out.City of Ballarat chief executive officer Anthony Schinck said council was conducting a condition assessment of the gardens."The rain which occurred had an exasperating impact, and our guys are making an assessment over the next couple of days to determine what to do to reinstate the area," Mr Schinck said.He said the council would continue focusing on the development of the sports and entertainment precinct around the Ballarat Showgrounds and Eureka Stadium for future events."We need to focus on these venues where we can conduct large events without having to have a detrimental impact on large open spaces," he said.Wendouree resident Les Holloway said the ground's condition was a "unmitigated disaster".He said the concert had been detrimental to the reserve's surrounding area. "I stood there with tears, I couldn't believe what I was seeing," Mr Holloway said. "They (council) had ample opportunity to either cancel or hold the concert for another time but chose to continue, and it was just a disaster that they let it keep going."This area is one of Ballarat's foremost tourist attractions and if we're going to let it be destroyed then that's just not right."Mr Holloway said there were other venues that would have been better for a concert of this size, including the Ballarat Showgrounds.
