FOR Carl Casella, Valentine’s Day provided the perfect opportunity to show his wife Linda how much he has appreciated her nursing him back to health after a recent motorcycle accident.Yesterday a huge bouquet of flowers, including gerberas and Asiatic lilies and a box of chocolates, arrived for a surprised Mrs Casella. The accident in which Mr Casella was injured happened on New Year’s Day, when his motorbike and a car collided at an intersection. Mr Casella sustained severe compound fractures to his right tibia and fibula. He spent two weeks in hospital and has since been recuperating at home.“Linda has been there by my side morning, noon and night since the accident,” Mr Casella said.He said his wife’s attention had extended to all facets of their lives, with her looking after both of their businesses – Simply Divine in Sturt Street and Stockade on Rubicon – as well as attending to all of his medical needs. Mr Casella said his wife had administered all his prescribed drugs, nursed him, made doctor’s appointments, investigated his medications and their possible side effects and researched his condition.According to her husband, Mrs Casella has even acquired new culinary skills to ensure his speedy recovery.“Linda normally doesn’t cook, but she’s picked up a cookbook and has been cooking three a la carte meals a day,” he said.“It’s been six-and-a-half weeksof hell for her – she’s wonder woman.” Mrs Casella said the accident was one of the most emotionally traumatic times in her life, but she insists that caring for her husband had been a labour of love.“It hasn’t been a chore – I do it out of love,” Mrs Casella said. She said her husband was, by his Italian nature, very romantic.Last night she got to put away the pots and pans as the couple enjoyed their first outing in weeks with a special dinner.
