Dereel 'venom' doctor looking for work

The newspaper reported that they had been arrested by English police after they tried to purchase two types of venom fatal to humans in small doses. The supplier then contacted police.

Dr Adekola said that any "internet research interest was my husband's" and that he had used her email account to buy the toxins online, according to the report.

A spokesman for Northamptonshire Police told The Age that Dr Adekola and her husband, who he named as Olufemi Adekola, were arrested on suspicion of fraud at Brackley, Northamptonshire, on March 30, 2011.

The spokesman said charges were never brought against the pair.

Dr Adekola arrived in Australia in August following up on a job offer and was in the process of filling out her application when she received the news that the doctor's watchdog in Britain, the General Medical Council, had suspended her. Three months ago that suspension was lifted, allowing her to work in private practice under strict conditions.

However, she is still banned from working for the National Health Service in Britain, according to the report.

The doctor said in an email to The Age that one of the reasons that she had left Britain was because of the "institutional assault" by authorities there.

"The incidents and assaults we have endured would constitute enough to claim asylum outside the UK."

"However, I have not been impressed by the news surrounding asylum seekers in Australia, so would not take that route without much thought.

"I have good enough skills as a doctor and would be willing to work in remote areas and areas of need. I have even cited in working in impoverished areas and with indigenous people," the email said.
