The 3AW radio host was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM).
The Geelong resident has been involved in show-business and entertainment for more than 45 years, including performing at Carols by Candlelight for more than 30 years.
Mr Walter said from the beginning of his career he made the decision to use his profile for good in the community.
MORE QUEENS BIRTHDAY HONOURS
He continues to be involved in many charities today.
“My friends started a charity, River’s Gift, after losing a child to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. This charity means a lot to me, so I do what I can to help and promote its cause,” he said.
He has also been an ambassador for the Make a Wish Foundation, the Austin Hospital and Geelong’s Barwon Health Foundation, as well as a patron for Cystic Fibrosis Victoria and the Samoyed Club of Victoria.
“This (award) makes me more committed to use whatever profile I have to do more good in the community,” Mr Walter said.
He said he had been reporting on the Queen’s Birthday honours for years, so it was different to be a recipient of one of the awards.
