DEVASTATING with bat and ball, Darcy Thomson has made a big impression on the cricket field this summer.The East Ballarat rising star's all-round effect in Ballarat Cricket Association junior action has earnt Thomson the Rebel Sport Junior Cricketer of the Month honours.In mid-November, Thomson proved unstoppable, scoring an unbeaten century and claiming 10 wickets (in two five-wicket hauls) in a two-day match against Creswick Imperials.A round later, facing Mt Clear, Thomson chalked up 66 not out and took another two wickets.In school cricket, the Damascus College student remains unbeaten with the bat, notching up a century and a couple of half-centuries.Thomson, 15, said everything seemed to click this month - especially against Creswick Imperials."That was good. I loved it," Thomson said."It is good to bat when you're making runs."Bowling is better because you get a second chance, and if you make a mistake you always get another ball."In batting, if you make a mistake, that's it."Thomson made his BCA club firsts debut last summer, aged 14, and this season sits as the team's second-highest wicket-taker from the first five rounds.His summer schedule is packed with cricket training four nights a week but Thomson said he enjoyed every moment.Thomson is also vice-captain of the Central Highlands' under-16 team, which is busy preparing for its Dowling Shield campaign, including pre-Christmas practice matches.He hoped to carry his form into the prestigious state championship while working to cement a spot in the East firsts.Thomson said his passion for the game was simple."I watched my dad play heaps," he said."Now I get to play and he watches me."
