Bowral have beaten Bundanoon in the first weekend of the Southern Highlands Cup at the Bundanoon Bowling Club on Saturday, December 9. The format for the match was pairs, triples and fours. Bundanoon got away to a good start when S.Kelly and K.Holden defeated Kevin Stafford and Craig Norman 15-4 and 16-7. Bundanoon played excellent bowls and left Bowral far behind. Bundanoon always looked as if they would win and with their shot selection, they always made it difficult for Bowral. Bob Crowley, Terry Butt, Dave Coltman and Nathan Boyers defeated R.Colley, B.O' Mullane, P. Cowling and B,Burnham 14-6 and 8-6. Bowral was able to play the better bowls in the first set to have a convincing win and although Bundanoon started to play to their strength in the second, Bowral hanged on for victory. Alistair McGhee, Stephen Della and Dugald Braithwaite defeated G.Crase, N.Duncan and S. Granger. Bowral won the first set by two shots, but the second set was more one sided. Skipper Braithwaite said he was pleased with how all his players struck form together and turned in a good solid performance. The final will be played between the two sides again at the same venue and every player is expected to be on their game. The semifinal and final will be played on Sunday, December 17.
