The competition, the biggest in The Courier's history, attracted more than 102 entries.
Over the past few weeks, people have been voting on the kitchens and now the top five will go head to head in the fight to be made over.
The five finalists are Marcia King, Ramsay and Erin Beacham, Tegan Johnson, Marg Maher and Monica Leahy.
Next week, each of the kitchens will be visited and judged by the judging panel before a winner is chosen.
The winner will receive a Realistic Kitchens renovation. The prize includes a kitchen renovation worth up to $20,000 supplied by Malcolm Alexander’s Realistic Kitchens, including taps and sinkware, door selection from Polytec, hardware and fittings from Hettich Australia, benchtops and splashbacks by Laminex and a range of Modena appliances.
The Courier's digital editor, Emily Sweet, said Ballarat's Worst Kitchen had been our most successful online photo competition to date.
"Not only for us at The Courier but for readers alike, it's been interesting to peek inside other people's kitchens," she said.
"Some entrants have not done anything to improve their bad kitchens; others have embraced the orange benchtops and green tiles and made the best of them."
