The carnival, held at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, will run until December 23.
Representing the Midlands District Amateur Swimming Association, 38 swimmers from three clubs have stepped up to the plate.

The relay teams also began their events last night, in timed events.
Many of the Midlands swimmers will start races today.
Swimmers come from Ballarat Gold Swimming Club, Ballarat Swimming Club and Ballarat GCO Swimming Club.
