With the birth of four baby boys in Ballarat on Saturday, it was easy to see why some would call this weekend the best Australia Day ever.
At 2.45am, Tracey and Jamie Mahony welcomed their new son and the first of three babies born at Ballarat Health Services Base Hospital this Australia Day.
Ethan Joseph, who weighed 3770 grams, is the second child for the Mahonys, with their first son Josh, 2, excited and looking forward to helping out his parents with his new brother
Mr and Mrs Mahony were astonished both their children were born on significant days on the event calender.
“Our other son was born on New Year’s Eve so it is a bit of a coincidence to have them both born on such big days,” Mrs Mahony said.
“We were making jokes about it but never expected to have a second child born on such a special day,” Mr Mahony said.
Cody Alexander was Ballarat’s second baby, born at 7.57am and weighing 3884 grams.
Melissa King and her partner Ross Hinde said they had forgotten all about Australia Day, with the birth of their second child far exceeding the excitement of the fireworks show that would take place not far from the hospital.
“He can have fireworks on his birthday for the rest of his life,” Ms King said.
Lucas John Robert Edwards, who weighed 2948 grams, arrived earlier than expected at 6.45pm, surprising his mum Sarah McNair, while over at St John of God Hospital, Anna Stott welcomed her son William Charles, who was born at 5.38pm and weighed 3005 grams.
“It’s pretty exciting, we were more than pre-occupied during the fireworks show,” she said.
