Ms McLean will be the sixth artist to take part in Under the Floorboards – a residency project designed to tell the story of UnitingCare’s work in the community, including the busy Dana Street Outreach Centre.
After contributing to film and television programs including The Project, George Negus Tonight and Missing Persons Unit, Ms McLean said she hoped to shine a light on the important work UnitingCare does in the Ballarat community.
“At the information session for this project, I was immediately struck by the unique approach UnitingCare Ballarat has to their work,” she said.
“The documentary would follow the fine threads that weave between the different services, revealing the fabric which creates the bond of the UnitingCare community.”
Ms McLean, who will live at the Sunways Retirement Home in Wendouree during the project, said relationships would be the key to the project.
“The camera is always a bit of a shock to people and I don’t bring it out unless I have warned them what is going on. I have been getting to know people and will soon start to record interviews and tell their stories,” she said.
The documentary will premier in October 2013.
Artworks produced during the residency project will be exhibited and performed at a gala event hosted by UnitingCare Ballarat executive director Dr Cliff Barclay.
