Beaches, theme parks and “less weeds in Lake Wendouree” were just some of the ideas students at Pleasant Street Primary School have come up with for Ballarat Imagine, an initiative to plan the city’s future. Council has invited residents to send in their ideas for what they love about Ballarat and what they imagine the city will look like in 2040.
Grade three/four pupil Amber said she loved the Eureka Pool and pictured a new zoo. Maggie also liked the sound of more animals, adding that she liked to go fishing in the lake.
Emma said she imagined a bigger jetty and an ice skating rink.
“I love Sovereign Hill and our lake,” she said.
Navneeta said she imagined a high tech centre, with water slides, kids playgrounds “and adult rooms as well”.
Ballarat mayor John Burt said submissions for Ballarat Imagine would be open until June. Residents can use Facebook, Twitter or postcards left around the city to offer their thoughts.
