Andrew, of Five Mile Creek Butcher and Deli, has taken out the prized Australian Meat Industry Council Smallgoods and Sausages central region lamb section sausage king competition.
His rogan josh sausages were noted for their special ingredients and freshness, scoring the top mark of the day with 135.
There were 199 butchers competing in the sausage competition from Ballarat to Bendigo, with Andrew’s snags now being prepared for a
state final.
Andrew developed the sausages, based on an Indian tomato curry, from 15 years’ experience in the food industry in Sydney, Mackay, Perth and Melbourne, and is now producing 12 varieties of sausages at his Clunes butcher
shop.
Clunes Tourist and Development Association president Michael Cheshire said it was another acknowledgement of Clunes’ standards and quality.
“Andrew has been recognised for what the good people of Clunes have known for some time,” Mr Cheshire said.
“The standards set by the traders in Clunes all goes well for attracting business from further afield.
“Clunes also now has a fine choice of shopping.”
