But journalism student Michaela Prendergast has taken it in her stride to help those on a budget look like they have just come off the runway without the added price tag.
This week, we caught up with the former Loreto College student to talk about her new blog, Luxe For Less.
Can you tell us a little bit about your blog and how you aim to help your followers dress in some of this year’s biggest trends?
The aim of Luxe For Less is to provide fashionable items for those who appreciate designer and celebrity style but – like me – are on a budget. I showcase one designer item per post, then provide affordable options that are very similar to the original.
I think this is something many people can relate to, because very few individuals can afford to fill their wardrobe with designer clothes.
What are some of the trends you are looking to recreate in a cost-effective way?
Christian Louboutin is a favourite designer of mine and he always sets the trends for women’s footwear, so I like to look at his current collection and find affordable shoes elsewhere that carry the same trends. I also like Chloé for handbags and Alexander Wang for dresses. I do all my research online so my readers can conveniently click through to purchase any items.
What are your tips for looking like some of the world’s most trendy A-list celebrity fashionistas?
Firstly, you can never go wrong with black. Secondly, there are a few staple items that you must have – a fitted blazer, an oversized handbag, big sunglasses and a statement coat for winter. Fashion is all about expressing yourself, so don’t feel like you have to follow every single trend. Pick and choose the ones that suit your body and your personality to feel comfortable and confident in what you wear.
