A second store – similar in design to the current Mair Street business – will open in Lucas early next year.
The 2124 square metre store on Coltman Plaza will be run by owners Trevor and Kaylene Wilson’s children Melanie Fulcher and Peter Wilson, along with Melanie’s husband Matt.
Mr Wilson said regular store surveys showed customers wanted another shop to open.
“And it was always in this area,” Mr Wilson said.
“We see this as a growth zone and Ballarat is big enough for two stores. However, the Mair Street store will still be our main store.”
Ms Fulcher said the Lucas shop would also feature a cafe and two speciality stores, with announcements on their occupants due soon.
“Our aim is to make it a one-stop shop,” Ms Fulcher said.
Nick Grylewicz from Integra said the new store would help realise the vision for a vibrant and diverse Lucas neighbourhood centre.
“Development of the Lucas Town Centre is well under way and the precinct will provide even more amenity to residents and reconfirms Integra’s commitment to early infrastructure in our communities,” Mr Grylewicz said.
Store developer Simon Clark said he and his wife were long-time friends and supporters of the Wilsons.
“When we heard of the expansion plans we jumped at the chance to be involved,” Mr Clark said.
Ballarat City Councillor Amy Johnson said the Wilson’s store joined a whole range of other recent Lucas announcements, including the Ballarat Community Health Centre headquarters, Woolworths and a 21-home display village.
“I am very pleased to see local businesses recognise the incredible opportunity that presents itself by establishing themselves in Lucas,” Cr Johnson said.
