The May 26 walk has been organised in partnership with the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Centre, which will benefit from the $20 entry fee to participate in either the 2km or 4km events around the picturesque landscape of Sovereign Hill.
Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute board member Paula Nicholson said it was an exciting opportunity for the community to be involved in such a worthy cause.
“As an institute that’s solely reliant on the community for funding and receives no government assistance, it relies on community partnerships like this with Sovereign Hill,” Ms Nicholson said.
Sovereign Hill chief executive officer Jeremy Johnson said the museum had its own magic in the mornings and was the perfect venue for a brisk walk.
“Sovereign Hill initiated its support for the FECR and the work done by George Kannourakis and his oustanding team as one of its 40th anniversary celebratory projects in 2010,” Mr Johnson said.
Professor Kannourakis said he was pleased to partner with Sovereign Hill for the event.
“Both Sovereign Hill and the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute began as great ideas, and through the hard work and support of the local community they are both internationally recognised as leaders in their field,” he said.
