The WestVic women came from behind to defeat the Gippsland Bulls at the Bendigo Bank Ballarat Hockey Centre on Saturday, before being soundly beaten by Southern United at Kingston Heath on Sunday.
Despite having most of the play against Gippsland, WestVic struggled to find the net in the opening half and allowed their opponents to score first.
WestVic responded with two goals, but it was Gippsland which found the net three more times against the run of play to end the half 4-2 up.
With Tammy Hansford going down early in the second half, Hannah Maloney led WestVic on a scoring frenzy with three goals and turned a 4-2 half-time deficit into a 7-5 win.
However, the women couldn’t cover the loss of Ruth Ryan on Sunday, who is on national veteran’s duties in New Zealand, and they slumped to a 6-1 loss against Southern United.
