Paul ‘Butch’ Howlett will reopen his second-hand CD and record business Rediscovery next week to the delight of Ballarat music enthusiasts.
Mr Howlett likened his store to David and Goliath for overcoming the challenges of the digital era, downloading music and the prevalence of big music retailers in Ballarat.
“As music stores have closed down I have gained their customers,” Mr Howlett said.
“My shop survives on service and product knowledge and my shop always has a good atmosphere.”
The boutique music store has outlived large music retailers that have come and gone in Ballarat including Virgin Music, Sanity, Leading Edge and several second-hand music stores.
“My client base is mainly of the older generation – people who aren’t so in touch with the digital era,” Mr Howlett said.
Mr Howlett sources his music from CD fairs, trash and treasure markets, garage sales and customers selling their own items.
“I think just like vinyls had a resurgence, CDs will do the same thing.”
