“I usually enter about 10 things, mainly the biscuits,” she said.
“I really enjoy it.”
When she’s not perfecting her swing at Ballarat Golf Club, Mrs Brauman can be found in the kitchen of her Alfredton home baking her speciality yo-yos.
Baking since the age of nine, Mrs Brauman remembers the excitement the competition had brought her over the years.
“You couldn’t wait to get in and see if you won a prize,” said Mrs Brauman of her first youth entries.
The competition is judged by a category point system, with the person who collects the most points claiming first prize.
In past years, Mrs Brauman’s apple cakes, meringues, biscuits, fruit mince pies and sausage rolls have all won her crucial points.
However, this year she was counting on her Anzac biscuits to bring home first place.
All baked goods were entered yesterday for judging at 11.30am, leaving entrants in anticipation until the winners are announced during the show.
“I’m not worried,” Mrs Brauman said.
“It’s no show without making an entry.”
What’s her cooking secret? Mrs Brauman said there wasn’t one, but her passion and skill was something that had passed through the generations of her family.
