CENTRAL Highlands secured its first win in the Victorian under-16 cricket championships on Wednesday, defeating the Western Spirit by three wickets at the Melbourne University oval.

The Highlanders were elected bowl first after losing the toss and sent the Spirit packing for just 136 runs of 49 overs.
Led by Jakob Tidyman, who notched up 72 runs with the bat, the Highlanders posted a winning total of 7-189.
Central Highlands' under-14 squad had less success in its third round match, falling four runs short of the Spirit's 102 total.
The Highlanders posted a score of 9-98 before they ran out of time in the 40-over run chase.
Connor Ronan led the way with 27 not out.
