Placed second in division three after the regular season, the Brewers – even without pitching ace Rory Meddick – showed no mercy for Ormond Glenhuntly
in the second semi-final, posting an emphatic 7-0 win against a side that had the Brewers’ measure in two of three games played this year.
Scoring two in the first and playing solid defence behind pitchers Tom Harrington and Scott Jones, the Brewer offence was at its dangerous best with various players making contributions with the bat.
“It really was a comprehensive win for our guys,” Brewers manager Hamish Burrows said.
“We expected it to be a tough game, especially at Ormond and given that they beat us narrowly down there just a few weeks ago. Tom did a fantastic job over seven innings and Ormond only had one serious chance to score when they loaded the bases in the eighth innings.”
Ballarat Brewers will meet the winner of next Sunday’s preliminary final between Ormond Glenhuntly and Footscray, who had an extra-innings win over
Chelsea in the elimination semi-final.
“We’ll be going in pretty confident but certainly not cocky, whoever we have to play,” Burrows said.
The Baseball Victoria division three grand final will be played at Prince of Wales Reserve on Sunday, March 9, starting at 2pm.
