Parry will arrive at the Ballarat Golf Club on March 7 to host a coaching clinic as well as play a round on the club’s Peter Thomson-designed layout.
Parry, 48, has 23 wins worldwide including 14 titles on the Australasian Tour and two titles on the US PGA Tour.
Affectionately known as ‘Popeye’ in golfing circles, Parry’s most notable achievements are third and fourth placings respectively on the US Open (1993) and British Open (1999) major championships.
He is also remembered (among a whole host of other Australian golfers), for his famous collapse at the US Masters, when he held the third round lead in the 1992 edition before collapsing to a final round of 78 for a distant 13th placing.
His day in Ballarat will begin with a one-hour coaching clinic before Parry plays nine holes with Ballarat head professional Dominic Azzopardi and several of Ballarat’s most promising juniors.
Parry’s visit will be concluded by a one-hour question and answer session starting at 5pm.
Azzopardi won the services of Parry through his role in the On Course Golf franchise, which he and Ballarat’s pro shop are a part of.
“We’re very privileged to have him come here,” Azzopardi said.
“It will be great to get his insight into the many different ways he goes about his short game and it certainly adds profile to our club.
“But more than this it’s a great opportunity for members of the Ballarat public to get an insight into the life of someone who has played golf at the highest level and had victories on the US Tour.
“I’ve heard through the grapevine that he’s been doing a lot of course design over the past couple of years and I’m interested to see what he thinks about our club.”
