THE Melbourne Welsh Male Choir will come to Ballarat, joining forces with Ballarat Grammar School.
Choir vice-president Mike Lyons said the choir had performed internationally and throughout Melbourne regularly, but thought it was time to spread its wings a bit further.
"In the past few years we've played in Horsham, Bendigo, Warragul, so we thought it was about time we came to Ballarat," Mr Lyons said.
"We're trying to establish an audience in regional Victoria."
The musical director had been to Ballarat and conducted workshops with Ballarat Grammar students, so thought it would be a good idea to combine for a show.
He said the music involved a broad range, including Welsh music, opera, musicals, spiritual and folk, both with accompaniment and a capella.
"On occasions we perform poetry with musical backing."
Mr Lyons said usually the choir performed 20 to 24 songs in a show.
"It will be slightly different though as we're performing with Ballarat Grammar School," he said.
"Ballarat Grammar will perform some songs on their own and there will be some combined.
"We're in suits for the first half and then in the second half we come out in rather colourful tartan vests."
The choir began in 1984 under the leadership of Bill Meal and quickly became know for its special sound and its boldness and ambition of productions.
