Queenswood and St Margarets, who entered the Australian Open Schools Rowing Championships as favourites for this event, took out top-two placings – Queenswood (New South Wales) with a winning time of seven minutes, 32.21 seconds over the 2000-metre course, St Margarets (Queensland) was two seconds behind.
Each had been clear winners in semi-finals on Saturday morning.
Grammar, stroked by Edwina Fry, was fourth in 7:39.76.
It concludes a strong rivalry with Ballarat Clarendon College this season that has played out in College’s Head of the Lake and Head of Schoolgirls titles.
Grammar, which edged out College in the semis just like it did at Schoolgirls a fortnight ago, proved too strong for College in the eight-boat final.
College finished sixth (7:49.44).
Loreto College, Ballarat, was third in the B final.
Ballarat High School, this year’s boys Head of the Lake winner, was fifth in the national schoolboys coxed four final yesterday.
High School (6:48.62), fourth in its semi-final, was outclassed by Melbourne’s Brighton Grammar, which posted a winning time of 6:40.45.
Ballarat Grammar (6:43.04) topped the boys’ B final with Ballarat Clarendon College’s firsts, stroked by James Simpson, runner-up in 6:50.45.
College’s boys seconds crew was sixth.
