Clunes has confirmed it will host Bungaree on Friday, April 25 at Bull Millgate Reserve, while Springbank is almost certain to welcome Buninyong to Wallace on the same day.
The Tigers and Bombers will meet tomorrow to discuss the finer details of the encounter before confirming it will go ahead.
It is expected only senior and reserves football and A-grade, B-grade and C-grade netball will be played on the Friday afternoon, with junior grades to be completed on the Saturday.
Clunes president John Bedwell said the idea was initially raised by senior coach Jason Hill, with the Magpies looking to make it a permanent fixture with the Demons.
Senior football and A-grade netball will be played under lights following all other games.
“I think the strength of any club is having new ideas and it’s up to the committee to action them. It was Jason’s idea and we approached Bungaree and they’ve been terrific about it,” Bedwell said.
“I think it’s definitely exciting for local footy to share in the celebrations of Anzac Day.”
Bedwell said Anzac Day medals would be presented to best players in each of the football and netball matches on the day, honouring individual Diggers from both towns.
The Central Highlands games will join Ballarat Football League fixtures between Ballarat and East Point and also Darley and Bacchus Marsh.
The Maryborough Castlemaine District competition also gets into the Anzac Day spirit, with Trentham and Maryborough Rovers doing battle.
