He has not ridden since having hip surgery late last year.
Melham, who grew up and began riding career in Ballarat, completed a group 1 double on the Darren Weir-trained Platelet in Adelaide this time last year - The Sangster and The Goodwood.
While Platelet is chasing back-to-back wins in the time-honoured $500,000 sprint, Melham will be aboard Smokin' Joey for Mornington trainer Wez Hunter.
Brad Rawiller has the ride on Platelet.
Melham's last rides were at Caulfield on November 16.
He resumed riding track work late last month.
