The Mother's Day Classic drew in people of all ages who ran, walked and jogged around the lake to raise money for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, with most of the participants adding a touch of pink to their exercise attire.
Mother's Day Classic co-ordinator Trecia Bik said she expected the number of people participating in the event to be close to 3000.
"It has been awesome, it has been overwhelming, we have almost ran out of registration forms, which is a great sign for us," she said.
"The day has been perfect with the sunshine."
Money raised will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation that promotes and supports research into breast cancer prevention and treatment.
"There are four of us on the committee, so for four mums who work and have kids it is really hard yakka for us. It is a volunteer role, but when you see everyone run off it is so overwhelming," she said.
"I don't know how we haven't shed tears yet, it has been fantastic."
Ms Bik said there had also been members of the community who could not participate in the event, but had dropped in donations regardless.
"When the first gun that went off, the first crowd of people (running), the feeling that you get among the crowd, you almost get a tingle down your spine.
"There is plenty of people who will come up and say I am doing this for my mum and grandparents who will say they are doing it for their daughter who is not here anymore. "
