The young Ballarat business was the only Australian hotel to be listed in the Asia and Oceania top 10 – at number four – by customer reviews on booking.com.
The hotel opened its doors just over a year ago and has established itself as one of Ballarat’s optimum accommodation choices.
Owners Danny and Nikky Quinlan took on the business late last year.
“It’s easy to run because you show people the room and they’re happy,” Ms Quinlan said. “It’s offering another level of accommodation in an old building.”
The 10 boutique suites range from $150 to $350 a night.
Prior to the five-month renovation in 2012 by developers Darren and Janet Fraser, the building was occupied by Ballarat RSL.
Mr Quinlan said the hotel appealed to local and international tourists.
The building was erected in 1901. It has been renovated yet still retains the original fittings, including the name of original owner Dr Cussen etched over the front door.
Marble and cast-iron fireplaces have been renovated and 21 Italian-made chandeliers installed.
