In a showing that confirmed the Lions are very much a genuine challenger for the 2014 Ballarat Football League premiership, Redan was simply dominant across the ground against the Bacchus Marsh side without coach Cam Richardson.
Aside from a five minute stint in the second term where the Cobras kicked their only consecutive goals for the day, it was one-way traffic all day as the maroon and gold triumphed both with and without the ball.
Bacchus Marsh was barely given an inch by a tenacious Redan outfit, supplying extreme pressure to cause countless turnovers and rebounding with sublime execution when given the opportunity.
Grant Bell was a clear best on ground for Redan, in his best performance for the year.
Moved forward after Dan Colbert injured his calf in the opening minute, Bell kicked seven goals including a dazzling left-foot soccer goal that would not have been out of place in Brazil.
Dean Chester also put in his best effort for 2014 across half forward, while Chris Giampaolo racked up countless possessions in the midfield.
Brett Dickinson was also dominant in the ruck, taking full advantage of the absence of usual Bacchus Marsh ruckman Bill Oakley, who missed through injury.
Redan coach Eammon Gill said his side’s intensity was the most pleasing aspect of a near faultless performance.
“Our ability to put Bacchus Marsh under pressure when they came forward with the footy was good, we really put them under pressure and hurt them when we went the other way,” he said.
Cobras coach Cam Richardson, who was told he had to coach from the boundary line due to a one-match suspension, said his side desperately needed to regain self-belief.
“Our confidence is shot for some reason, even the simplest of skills we weren’t able to execute,” he said.
“We will get it back, we just have to start enjoying the game again.”
Redan has now won six matches in a row following its opening round humiliation at the hands of North Ballarat City and sits clear in second position on the ladder.
It faces Lake Wendouree next Sunday and Sebastopol in the following week, with every likelihood to enter its round 10 bye at 8-1.
Bacchus Marsh slips to sixth position and faces another tough task against Ballarat next week.
