Unveiled on Saturday, the $75,000 work known as the Delacombe Wetlands Public Art Project is one of a number of efforts to brighten up the area, said Member for Western Victoria Simon Ramsay.
"It's a great pleasure to be at the Doug Dean Recreational Reserve today to acknowledge this fantastic sculpture, which celebrates the new habitats created in the Delacombe wetlands," Mr Ramsay said.
"The piece, which includes floating islands of reeds and grasses that were planted by the community, also symbolises what can be achieved when local and state governments work with the community to transform the local environment."
Local artist Chris Mether spent months erecting the sculpture and was joined by members of the community and City of Ballarat representatives on Saturday for its unveiling.
The state government has provided $5.8 million in funding for neighbourhood renewal in the Delacombe area.
Funding for the art project included $30,000 from the state government and $45,000 from the City of Ballarat.
Doug Dean Reserve has in recent years being revived with new lighting, pathways, public toilets, an all abilities playground and youth activity space.
