ONE OF the world's most popular and successful rappers Coolio will perform a special gig in Ballarat as part of his national Australian tour.
The Grammy award-winning artist, composer and actor, arguably best known for his 90s hit Gangsta's Paradise, will take to the stage at Karova Lounge next month before heading to several capital cities as well as the Gold Coast and Newcastle.
Karova Lounge venue co-ordinator Shaun Adams said the gig announcement had received a great response from local music lovers.
"I think it's something fun and nostalgic. It has had a great reaction via social media so far and is certain to sell out," he said.
"At one stage Coolio was one of the biggest artists in the world, so to actually have him here performing might not sink in until he is on the stage."
To date, Coolio has sold more than 18 million records globally and has performed in countries including Africa, Israel, Russia, Brazil, Turkey and Europe. In 2012, he performed as one of the headline acts at Falls Festival.
The artist has also successfully made the transition from performer to actor, having appeared in many feature films as well as his recent television series Cooking with Coolio.

Mr Adams said the show highlighted Karova Lounge's prominent place in the local and national entertainment scene.
"Karova has got a great reputation around Australia, and I think artists more than ever now want to get out of the cities-only touring cycles," he said.
"I think this year coming into our 10th Birthday we have had some amazing acts in so many different genres of music ranging from Cosmic Psychos to Coolio but I think definitely this one will be remembered."
