Edwards, from Illinois, will run point for the GMHBA Miners and, by game-time on Saturday night, should have had at least three sessions with teammates in a crash course on their plays for a South East Australian Basketball League double-header.
An urgent late addition, Edwards replaces Miners sharp shooter Roy Booker, who had surgery for a leg injury on Thursday afternoon to ensure he will be back playing sooner at 100 per cent.
Booker is ruled out for the remaining SEABL season and Edwards must play all 11 games ahead to qualify for finals.
Edwards is thrown into play on a tough assignment.
The Miners face the east conference’s second-ranked team Nunawading in a bid to reinforce top-four footing after a two-point overtime loss to Geelong last week.
Miners’ fans will get a chance to see Edwards in action on Sunday, when the Miners host east conference rival Knox, a team with three wins leading into this round.
