Allen gathered his troops the day after a 10-point loss to the Lakies, a performance he described as “soft”, “second rate” and “insipid”.
Since then, the Roos have regained some key personnel and gone unbeaten to be third on the ladder, heading into Saturday’s blockbuster with Springbank.
“Even the players have commented over the last couple of weeks that it has been a turning point ever since then. We addressed some of the key issues we thought we had internally and it has been good,” Allen said.
The side faces its first significant test for some time this weekend, against a fired-up Tigers, which lost to lowly Clunes last weekend to slip to seventh on the ladder.
Allen has poured on the pressure to the GJ Gardner Tigers, who he says are under the pump after being one of the hyped teams of the pre-season.
“The pressure is on everybody to win a game, but they are the ones that have got more pressure than anyone at the minute. They are the talk of the league, put it that way,” Allen said.
The Roos have named two changes from the team that beat Creswick last outing, with defender George Russell (from a back injury) and midfielder/forward Tom Nijam (from unavailability) the inclusions. Forward Jacob Spolding is the key out due to other commitments.
Springbank has also made two changes to the team that lost to Clunes, with Nathan Edwards and Brock Freeman coming in for Matt Lakey and Chris Quinlan.
There is some doubt about the condition of onballer Tim Malone after a heavy knock to the face last Saturday, while star goal-kicker Tom Eltringham missed the clash with the Maggies and has not been selected this weekend.
