Public Transport Victoria has previously confirmed Ballarat’s bus routes will be changed to “coincide with the upcoming early completion of the Regional Rail Link project”, but will not release any details of the timing changes to hit in almost two weeks.
Committee for Ballarat chief executive officer John Kilgour, who was consulted by PTV in April on the changes, said he would like to see train and bus services working in unison.
“It’s making sure there’s key integration with the bus service with rail, and proposed improvements as part of the Regional Rail project come to fruition,” he said.
Mr Kilgour said he had not heard from PTV since the initial consultation. PTV also spoke with the City of Ballarat and other local councils to work out where more services were most needed.
The new Bacchus Marsh routes will replace existing services, and run from Hillview Estate, Telford Park and Darley to Bacchus Marsh Station.
Moorabool Mayor Paul Tatchell said was very positive about the buses heading further out.
“As a town spreads out, it’s hard to get into town, so any new options are great,” he said.
“Everyone’s started to realise it’s a very economical way to get around, and it also helps with cost of living.”
PTV staff will be at Bacchus Marsh Station on Tuesday July 22, between 3pm and 7pm, and Gell Street bus interchange on Wednesday, July 23 from 10am until 2pm.
PTV did not respond to requests for comment.
