He announced his candidacy on Monday, three months after returning to Ballarat from Wadeye, in the Northern Territory, which he said was “known as one of the worst communities in
Australia”.
While in the Northern Territory, he operated Wadeye’s media unit and helped around the community.
I was helping all facets of the community there, to help the community development,” he said.
Mr Goodfellow said he was running for Buninyong because he believed his experience would help improve the area he grew up in.
“I just have a passion and love for this community,
“I grew up in Ballarat and spent my early years here.
“I love the country and the people,” he said.
The Greens received almost 15 per cent of the vote in 2010, behind Ballarat East Labor member Geoff Howard and former councillor Ben Taylor, both of
whom are running again.
Mr Goodfellow said he was aiming to win the seat, but was also determined to start off conversation based on Greens’ policies and to help in the race for the upper house.
“My goal is to get the Greens’ vision out in the public, and get debate on some of these issues, like renewable energy, public transport, TAFE ... things like that,” he said.
