Power has been reappointed for his second year at the helm, where he will be joined by new assistant Jake Garvey and former coaches Phil Crouch and Louis Franc, who take on official director of football operations and director of coaching roles respectively.
The club told players and supporters of Power’s reappointment at training on Thursday night before the senior side’s memorable six-point win over Buninyong on Saturday, which tied in with its celebrations to mark 20 years since joining the Central Highlands Football League.
Power told The Courier he had always planned to be around for more than one season.
“It was probably the preference for both of us, assuming everything worked out this year,” Power said.
“There’s no value in leaving after the year, for the players’ sake. I think we’ve shown enough signs this year that potentially we could build something for next year so there’s no use leaving now.”
Power said he had hoped to reach finals in 2014, but admitted it had been a steep learning curve during his first year leading a side in an unfamiliar competition.
Saturday’s victory over the Bombers has lifted Beaufort to seven wins for the year, two more than it managed last campaign.
“We have had some disappointing losses because we have just fallen short with a few little things, but Hepburn was the only match for the year I didn’t feel like we were in it as a team,” Power said.
Power said it was now a matter of getting the right players into the club ahead of next season.
“We know who we are after and who would be a good fit, we think. We are not thinking we need wholesale changes, just a bit of class and a bit of run,” Power said.
Crows president Michael O’Connor said the appointments were about formalising the structure for the football arm of the club and hoped to be able to do similar things with the netball division in the future.
O’Connor added that he was “very, very happy” with the direction Power had taken the senior team since arriving at Beaufort and that he had set goals that were attainable.
He said the club was now on the lookout for another senior playing assistant that could help Power and Garvey in the role.
