Yoa coasted home to go one better than his second place in the event last year.
The Ballarat Regional Athletic Centre representatives now heads to Albany in Western Australia, where he will run over 12km on Saturday.
Yoa went into the state championship event with the intention of taking it “easy” on the first lap of the lake and seeing where it took him.
This was enough to have him making the pace in a lead group of three.
With the incentive of a victory on home ground, Yoa stepped it up over the closing 6km and had a comfortable margin on the line over Melbourne University’s Mark Kirwan, with Brady Threlfall (Box Hill) third.
