A number of stellar outings over the past two weeks has seen the young star selected as part of Perth’s West Coast Futsal team for its campaign at the World Club Championships. The titles will be held in Mindosa, Argentina, from September 8 to 13.
Te was handpicked after talks between Ballarat FC and West Coast Futsal staff in the second round of the NFL’s southern conference action on August 23 to 24.
Ballarat coach Corey Smith is disappointed his side will miss one of its key players for the finals in Sydney, but was happy for Te’s inclusion in the squad featuring several international standard players and Australian captain Shirash Saksikumar.
“It was pretty simple which players’ names to put forward when I was asked about the potential of a player joining the West Coast side championships,” Smith said. “They were impressed by a few of our players but Brian’s versatility was a defining factor in the end.
“He’s one of the most coachable players I’ve ever come across and his commitment and attitude is equally matched by his ability. He has all the tools to make it in the sport if he stays level headed and continues on.”
Smith says the choice came down to Te and fellow 18-year-old Tyler Cameron for the spot in the West Coast team, after the latter dominated opponents in the two rounds of competition.
