The Courier was denied access to the tribunal hearing on Tuesday night and the Ballarat Football League would not release details of the case.
However, the Lions issued a statement which said that Cowell was found guilty of approaching an umpire at the end of last Sunday's second semi final against Ballarat.
"Dale has been suspended from coaching next weekend's preliminary final, however will return to coach his team in the event they are successful in making it through to the grand final," the statement read.
"The Redan Football Netball Club will proactively reinforce the requirements for all persons involved with our club to comply with all codes of conduct governing what constitutes acceptable behaviour at all times on and off the field."
It is also believed there was an altercation between a Redan supporter and an umpire, which the club is expected to deal with in due course.
