Grant Luscombe is now at the helm of the Central Highlands Football League powerhouse after replacing Jason Allen.
The 31-year-old said taking the club to a flag inside the next two years was “realistic”.
“Waubra has that winning culture, but you’ve got to work hard for it at the same time,” Luscombe, a Ballarat High School teacher, said.
“My other goal besides that is to develop those younger players as well so it’s sustained success, so that Waubra continues to be a club that is well respected in the footy community.”
Luscombe said he was excited about the challenge ahead.
“I’m doing a lot of work with it and I can’t wait for it to start already,” he said. “They are a great and a hard-working committee (at Waubra) and great people out there that I really respect.”
Season 2015 will be Luscombe’s first as a senior coach.
He coached East Point’s reserves to two top-of-the-ladder finishes before joining Waubra as a player in 2010.
Luscombe then went on to coach the Roos’ reserves to two-straight grand finals, winning a premiership in 2011.
He also spent time as an assistant to former Waubra coaches Shane Skontra and Allen before taking time away from the game in 2014.
His only serious involvement was with the Ballarat Swans, where he served as a runner late in the year.
Waubra president Chris Bourke said Luscombe was an attractive candidate because of his coaching experience and that a two-year deal would allow him time to get comfortable in the role.
“He’s very structured, well organised and relates well to not only the older group but a young group too,” he said.
Waubra has reached the past two Central Highlands preliminary finals under Allen, who is yet to commit on his playing future.
Meanwhile, Gordon has reappointed Corey Grills for a third year in charge.
Grills will continue on as senior coach of the Eagles after taking them to a preliminary final in 2014.
He was named the league’s coach of the year for his efforts in getting the team to second place on the ladder during the home and away season.
The club has also confirmed Chris McGuigan and Tye Murphy will remain Grills’ assistants in 2015.
