I WONDER how many people realise that after the impending state election, Ballarat will cease to exist in the state Parliament?

The recent redistribution of the former electorates of Ballarat East and Ballarat West have been replaced with the electorates of Buninyong and Wendouree.
The old Ballarat electorates carrying the Ballarat name in them had existed continuously from 1855, when Peter Lalor and J B Humffray were nominated for the first seats in the old Legislative Council.
The electorates of both Ballarat East and Ballarat West continued to be represented by many great figures in Ballarat's history, from Duncan Gillies, Vale, Collard Smith, Pittard and more.
Perhaps to overcome any problems of recognition, both within and beyond the Parliament, the new seats might be better called Ballarwee and Ballawong?
