FROM its opening in 1978, it was known as Wendouree Village.
Then, in 2003, it was bought out by retail and property giant Stockland and was renamed Stockland Wendouree.
But ask any Ballarat local and it will always be known as Wendouree Village or just the Village.
Since its opening almost 40 years ago, the Village has undergone some significant expansions and now incorporates two multi-national supermarkets, as well as chain stores, boutiques and specialty shops.
Its two food courts are a hive of activity all day, every day, while on weekends the shopping centre is the gathering hub for family and friends to meander around or race-in, race-out for that essential item.
Parking is a breeze, with the complex surrounded by plenty of spaces that offer access to the Village from almost every angle.
For many, though, getting your tongue around the name Stockland Wendouree is hard.
It’s a bit like how, in our heart of hearts, the Golden City Hotel is still just Gee Cees and Phoenix P-12 Community College will always be Sebas Tech.
