The club will host Ballarat’s Big Book Bonanza on November 29 and 30 at St Andrew’s Hall, corner of Sturt and Dawson streets.
Thousands of books will be for sale, including a large range of children’s books, novels and large print works.
Most book prices range between 50 cents and $2.
A specialist room with unique military and railway books will also be available.
About 7000 books, across 30 different categories, have been donated for the event.
Rotarian Rob Petrie said many people had helped organise the event.
“The project has given everyone something to do,” Mr Petrie said. “We have people sorting and carrying books and providing afternoon tea.”
A Rotaract barbecue and morning and afternoon teas will keep the masses fed. The U3A Celtic Band will perform on Saturday afternoon.
Club president John Olsen said the bonanza allowed people to give back to the community.
“We encourage all members of the Ballarat community to support us in this venture,” Mr Olsen said. “We intend that all proceeds from our first book bonanza will go back into local projects and charitable causes.”
