Those are the three factors Ballarat Police are urging motorists to apply to their driving to ensure a safe Christmas period.
For the conclusion of Operation Breakup on Monday, Ballarat Police Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant Pat Cleary patrolled the Western Freeway to target distracted drivers.
As part of the Summer Stay campaign, Operation Cross Roads will start on Tuesday and target impaired drivers.
“With Operation Cross Roads, it’s during a known high-risk period – and we need to remain focused to ensure everyone drives with care, consideration and patience so we all stay safe over the Christmas period,” Senior Sergeant Cleary said.
Senior Sergeant Cleary said he had pulled over seven drivers on Monday morning for speeding.
“By far the majority of motorists are heeding the message and being responsible on our roads,” he said.
“Unfortunately it’s the minority we need to focus on.”
There have been nine fatalities in the Ballarat Police Service Area in 2014, seven less than the same time last year.
The statewide road toll stands at 245, seven more than the same time in 2013.
