The 14-year-old Ballarat Grammar student has only recently taken up the unicycle, but is confident he can do a lap without too many issues.
"I haven't faceplanted or anything yet," he said.
"It's very different to a normal bike, though."
He has been training by riding around a circuit in Alfredton.
"Three kilomtres is as far as I've gone so far, I'll save (6km) for the day," he said.
The triathlete, basketball player, rower, swimmer and (bi)cyclist will probably make it around on the one-wheeler without too much trouble before he jumps back on the normal bike.
The lake relay is just one of the events running on Sunday, February 15 to fundraise for the Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute.
It means people who want to take part in the ride, but can't do the minimum road ride of 50km or the 25km mountain bike ride can still get the legs working for a good cause.
The relay is open to teams of up to 12 riders to ride around Lake Wendouree for two-and-a-half hours from 9.15am.
Jared's progress on the unicycle has been so fast - just over a month to get comfortable with it - so the challenge next year might have to be a backwards ride, or even the 50km on one wheel.
