Not the kind that first came to mind, the three-piece kind from Melbourne who play rock and roll.
Sheriff will perform at The Eastern on Friday night, with Ballarat locals Horris Green supporting the high energy band in their second ever show in the city.
Weird twists have become a common occurrence at a Sheriff gig, but when asked to describe their style of music, a common theme couldn’t be agreed on.
As an answer, Sheriff guitarist Tom Watson said the only way to find out was to see them live in action to judge for yourself.
“Some people have described our sound as Southern Psychedelic Horror Blues Rock, but we’re not sure what that means.”
A good example of the group’s more interesting gigs was while on tour in the mining town of Port Hedland.
“After our music caused a bit of a stir in one of the venues the following evenings performance was cancelled, but one of the locals came to the rescue and said we could play a show at the speedway out of town the following night,” Watson said.
“This resulted in us playing on the back of a truck to about 20 blokes in lawn chairs on the track of a red dirt desert speedway in the Pilbara.”
As for their Ballarat show, there will be no truck stages, but the boys are looking forward to returning and sharing with fans their new single.
“It has been over a year since we were there last so looking forward to getting back,” he said.
“Last time was a whole lot of fun but we’re confi dent that this time will be even better.”
