The old-school style building becomes the perfect backdrop for Footloose-style moves with music over three days.
“We have a great wooden floor and plenty of space so the rockabillies can dance,” Suttons House of Music bookings and events co-ordinator Dani Fry said.
The three days of music will kick off on Friday with The Itchy Fingers from 8pm. Ms Fry said the rockabilly four-piece, which has become renown for its 1950s-60s rock ‘n’ roll, rhythm and blues music, making their way around country Victoria for the past 20 years is guaranteed to keep crowds dancing.
From 8pm on Saturday, The Roadhouse Romeos will take to the stage with their rockabilly, western swing, honky tonk and hillybilly blues, while on Sunday, the locals come out to play. Ballarat’s The Mary Gardens and Mick Dog’s Bone Yard will perform at 3pm and 6pm respectively as the weekend draws to a close.
With four different performances over the weekend, Ms Fry said there was going to be something for everyone.
“It’s a whole weekend of music, it will be great,” she said.
“The bands are fantastic, they’re all varying acts and quite different.”
Ms Fry said she hoped the free event would encourage people to immerse themselves in the sounds of live music.
“One of the things we try to do is offer free music,” she said.
“As a venue we’re trying to support musicians but also to get people to witness the experience of the talent coming through Ballarat.”
