Hoy booted two goals in the Roosters’ 23-point win against Victorian Football League rival Coburg in Craigieburn on Sunday.
The trademark defender played the first half up the ground, coming off to tag-team with SANFL recruit Andrew Hooper, who stepped into the role for the second half.
Returning Rooster Myles Sewell also played just the half in his first outing for the club since 2013.
North Melbourne-listed duo Robin Nahas (20 disposals, three goals) and Aaron Black were in dominant form for the Roosters.
Roosters coach Gerard FitzGerald said his team took a quarter or so to adapt to its new, more direct game style.
The Roosters will host reigning premier Footscray in a practice match at Eureka Stadium on Saturday.
