A RARE opportunity to see birds of prey up close will take place at the Ballarat Wildlife Park over the school holidays.
From Wednesday to Sunday at 1pm during both weeks of the schools holidays, Leigh Valley Hawk and Owl Sanctuary director and head raptor handler Martin Scuffins will bring along two birds for a special show at the park.
“It is a rare opportunity to see these birds in such close quarters,” he said.
“The creatures have such beautiful features but once you get up close you have a greater appreciation of them.
“Kids are fascinated by them in particular, you really get a sense of wonder when you see them.”
Mr Scuffins will bring an eastern barn owl and a nankeen kestrel to the show.
Part of the program will include informing residents how they can help care for the environment that humans share with the birds.
Mr Scuffins said the sanctuary was still in its early days and was not open to the public.
