She set a record time of 38 minutes and 55 seconds to finish as the fastest female and a new BRAC 40-plus age group record.
Conducted over the usual 25 laps of the Llanberris track, the title was awarded to the competitor with the fastest adjusted time. Finish times were adjusted by a standardised multiplication factor based on age and gender.
Williams’ finishing time was multiplied by 0.8394 to give an adjusted time of 32:41.
The format allows the older athletes to be competitive against the younger, faster ones and females to match it with the men. The adjusted time also lets older athletes compare their performance with a personal best they may have done when they were at their peak.
Williams said she was pleased with her run but was not confident that she had taken out the title.
“I had three men finish in front of me, so I wasn’t sure where I would place in the standardised competition,” she said.
“As a female and not being a spring chicken worked in my favour.
Second in the standardised competition and first overall across the line was Eureka’s Jamie Maher, with an adjusted time of 33:43 (finish time of 37:15). Third went to Wendouree’s 800m specialist Natasha Typuszak in 36:04 with a finish time of 40:36.
BRAC organisers were pleased with the turn-
out, particularly with the number of competitors who were not registered or associated with a club.
