The Ballarat export told BulldogsTV the decision to re-sign was a simple one.
“It’s a club that I’ve always loved and a club that I always will love so I want to be here for as long as I can and to get three more years to have a crack is terrific,” the Dogs’ vice-captain said.
“It’s an exciting time and I’m an eternal optimist so I don’t see why this year can’t be a really successful one for us.
“We’ve got some fantastically talented kids coming through, getting some fantastic tutelage from the older guys, through the coaching staff and through the head coach.”
Roughead, who was drafted to the Bulldogs from the North Ballarat Rebels in 2008, has played 73 AFL games since debuting in 2010.
Bulldogs list manager Jason McCartney said Roughead was a talented and highly competitive player, who was widely respected at the club.
“From a leadership standpoint, he is an excellent contributor, which is important, particularly with a young list,” McCartney said.
